Germany Ranks Second in European Higher Education
2/25/2024

Germany secured the second position as the top European country for university education, according to The Campus Advisor's 2024 rankings, trailing behind only the UK. The survey, which draws on student reviews, evaluates various aspects of higher education across Europe, including educational quality, student diversity, career prospects, social life, and cultural offerings.
The Campus Advisor's assessment awarded Germany an overall score of 4.41 out of 5, with particular praise for its tuition fee system, which is notably more affordable compared to other study destinations. However, the survey did not delve into the impact of university fees, which significantly affect the cost of living for students. In contrast to the UK's tuition fees, which range from £9,000 annually for home students to £11,400 to £38,000 for international students, Germany's tuition fees are considerably lower, earning commendation from respondents.
Despite Germany's strengths in providing affordable public transport, dining options, and sports facilities, the issue of affordable student housing remains a concern, especially in light of the country's worst housing shortage in two decades. Large cities like Berlin, which was also recognized as the second-best city for students by The Campus Advisor in November 2023, are experiencing the brunt of this housing crunch, impacting students' ability to find suitable accommodation.
The Campus Advisor's higher education rankings for 2024 list the top European countries as follows:
United Kingdom
Germany
Ireland
Switzerland
Denmark
The Netherlands
France
Czechia
Austria
Sweden
